Last weekend was Berkeley, That was fun as hell.  I got to spend lotsa time with Carmen and Tristan, who are hella cool people, we ended up bidding, which was awesome, and I had a really cool run in with the police.  The best part of the weekend though was going to the Bittersweet cafe, which is like a chocolate cafe and it was totally awesome.  Then I got lost in Fremont at the BART station.  Anyways, props to Matt Grimes and Dylan Groves for being second seed and going 8-0, and being 7th and 10th speakers, despite the complaints of certain senior debaters *cough.*
This weekend was league 3 and I debated with Sachin Thakkar, my old partner from end of frosh and soph year.  That was a damn good time and we ended up going 4-0, which was SIIICK.  Props to the other 4-0 kids as well, specifically, pGo and the frosh.  This coming up weekend is State quals IE 1 and hopefully ALan and I can get ourselves a spot at that tourney.  I figured I needed an update in order to kinda wash away the morbidity of the last entry, so here it is...leave a comment.

Lexington was awesome.  It was sad to say bye to some of my friends but we did well.  I also got to hang out with some tight people (Carmen, Jack).  More important is movie reviews though.
Meet The Fockers: B/B+

This movie would have been better if it didn’t have to rely on sometimes crude potty humor to entertain its audience.  The first movie was funny because it retained originality to its humor that is quite uncommon.  Fockers didn’t seem to have the same originality throughout, but still was extremely entertaining.  Dustin Hoffman is especially brilliant as Greg’s Dad and the way both families compliment each other is often comedic.  Without revealing much of the movie I was most disappointed with the lack of explanation regarding Jack’s character change at the end of it, which is why it wasn’t graded higher.  Regardless it was definitely an entertaining use of my time and would recommend it to fans of the first movie.

I Heart Huckabees:  A

I watched the cut version of this movie on the plane flight back from Lexington.  I am not the type of person to laugh out loud, especially during movie but I ended up laughing so hard I bothered the person sitting next to me.  Huckabees is well written and EXTREMELY well acted.  Anyone with a quirky sense of humor should definitely check this movie out.  Mark Walhberg plays a great role, which is surprising, and Dustin Hoffman proves his talent once again.  The movie is not only original in concept, but original in design and plot structure which utterly lulls the viewer into acceptance of anything and everything that comes on screen.  The movie as a whole is really well done, and suited me quite well.  I would advise anyone who can to get a chance to see this movie.  (DVD release is 2/22-Buy it!)

OK, its been a long time since i updated, sorry.
We left for Redlands and USC and I forgot the printer in the airport on the 16th.  My coach was pissed at me but that kinda faded as time wore on.  We hit Brookfield BB round won and it was a 1-1 decision.  We dropped a ballot to Pace AG and GDS BZ and 2 to Dickerson, who we can never seem to beat. We were 3rd in our pod so we didnt break but it was still fun to chill and debate against good teams. Then we went to redlands and were 4-0 after day 1.  We got in trouble that night by our coach for not working and then went 1-2 in prelims the next day.  we lost in doubles to Lynbrook on a 2-1 and I was pretty pissed about that round but w/e.  Then we came home and i took finals, which i did rather poorly on.  For Christmas I got the Creative 20gig mp3 player I wanted in addition to a new poker set and a Nintendo DS, so that was cool.  We left for Mexico on the 16th and it was a pretty boring week.  A lady asked me if I wanted a "massage...or something," so that kinda freaked me out because it was pretty obvious what the 'or something' was.  Then a guy tried to sell me weed but my grandpa was right there so that was funny as hell.  That was about all that happened all week tho, I bought things like a watch and then slept on the beach.  Now im home and dreaded the 1st day of school a shitload but fortunately it wasnt that bad.  Yesterday I went hardcore shopping at AE, Borders, Hot Topic, and Tower Records but the Jacket I bought a Hot topic broke so im pissed about that.  I dunno whats with this entry-its one of those sensless-heres-whats-going-on-in-my-life things in case anyone cared lol.  Sorry for not giving anyone to think about but I felt some kind of entry was necessary.

This entry was meant for yesterday but i was too busy:
Im emoish again.  I still dont want to call it emo so im calling it Zen.  The coined term of a generation.  What a fucking buzzword.  Fuck you Chuck Palahniuk.  We love you at the same time.  Nameless Edward norton is the true hero.  I want not to be indifferent and unaffected but rather be caring and compassionate.  The corniest shit ever-random acts of kindness, and im doing it.  And congratulations for being sucked into a sub-level of conformism.  What however, isn't conformism if everyone falls into some type of group.  Even hippies fall into some type of the systematic assemblage of order?  Does class and group mean there no longer exists an individual?  And if my individuality has been eliminated ( I fall into the liberal-geek-student group) then what would Michel say?  We must therefore have no individuality by person, but rather individuality by class, because form the moment we are born, we are affected by the ideas of others, of textbooks, and of our influenced perception.  That is inevitable, so do we really determine what we become or does everyone else?  This must be important because if we cant determine ourselves then what are we?
